Graduate Research Supervisor at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA)


IITA is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Our R4D is anchored on the development needs of sub-Saharan Africa. We develop agricultural solutions with our partners to eliminate hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture. We have more than 100 internationally recruited scientists from about 35 countries and 900 nationally recruited staff based in various stations across Africa.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture seeks suitable candidates for the position of Research Supervisor at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan.

Job Title: Research Supervisor (2-year renewable contract)

Location: Ibadan


Duties
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following:
  • Collect, collate and summarize field and lab data;
  • Carry out laboratory activities;
  • Assist to train farmers;
  • Prepare weekly plan for all field workers and technicians in consultation with the Research Associate and other Research Supervisors in the Unit;
  • Supervise and coordinate the implementation of the weekly plan for Research Technician and Field Assistants;
  • Prepare the protocol for each field activity and supervise the implementation of these protocols;
  • Supervise and maintain the quality of field books and data;
  • Prepare and implement quality and continuous improvement protocols in the Unit;
  • Perform any other duty assigned by the Supervisor.
Educational, Experience and Other Requirements
BSc/HND in General Agriculture/Crop Breeding with a minimum of 1 year in R4D breeding experience.

The ideal candidate must:
  • Be open to new ideas and have the ability to change mindset;
  • Be able to follow instructions and work independently where necessary;
  • Be able to work under pressure during planting and harvesting seasons.
  • Be able to travel during planting and harvesting seasons;
  • Be proficient in at least one local language.
